Our History

In the early 2000s, hundreds of families from English-speaking countries began making aliyah to Ramat Beit Shemesh Alef, drawn by the affordable housing and warm, close-knit community with shuls, schools, and businesses tailored to their needs. While several elementary schools were available, there was no local yeshiva high school for boys, leaving families with only two difficult options: sending their sons away to dorming yeshivas or enrolling them in Israeli yeshivas that offered no math or English beyond the age of 13.

In 2010, with encouragement from rabbanim and educators, and out of concern for their own sons’ chinuch, Zev and Rivky Tyberg founded the Mesivta of Beit Shemesh on a completely volunteer basis. Their vision was to establish a local yeshiva that combined rigorous limudei kodesh, character development, sports, and a professionally run general studies program- the kind of chinuch found in mesivtas worldwide.

The yeshiva opened in Elul 2010 with just 12 boys in a rented house near Ramat Beit Shemesh. Today, under the exceptional leadership of Rabbi Avishay Brown, Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Rephael Willig, Menahel Ruchni, and Rabbi Netanel Schnitzer, General Studies Principal, the Mesivta has grown to more than 160 talmidim, with parallel classes in grades 9-12. It is widely recognized as a model of a successful boys’ yeshiva high school in Israel. Parents are consistently amazed to see their teenage sons leave home each morning with a smile- and return late at night, after a 13-hour day, still smiling.

The Mesivta provides a warm, vibrant environment where high school boys can thrive. Our staff consists of exceptionally dedicated and warm rebbeim and teachers who are deeply invested in every talmid’s success—challenging them academically, guiding their growth in middos, and fostering personal responsibility and simchas hachaim. The close relationships between staff and students help each talmid develop into a well-rounded ben Torah.

For hundreds of oleh families, the Mesivta has become a trusted chinuch partner, with many crediting the yeshiva as the key to making their dream of aliyah a lasting reality. Our educational approach extends far beyond the classroom, with a rich calendar of events including Friday night onegs, Thursday night mishmar learning, uplifting shabbatonim, visits to rabbanim, kumzitzes, trips, and many other special experiences.

While most talmidim are local (the yeshiva does not have a dormitory), students also commute from Jerusalem, Beitar, Telzstone, Rechovot, and even as far as Karmiel!  About 30% of our students are native-born Israelis, fostering natural integration and a strong connection to the broader community.

Our Bagrut matriculation program has earned the prestigious Ministry of Education award for excellence for two consecutive years—an outstanding accomplishment for any high school in Israel, and especially for a yeshiva that maintains three full daily sedarim of Torah learning. The skills gained through this program open doors for future educational and professional opportunities.

We take great pride in our hundreds of graduates, who are deeply committed bnei Torah. Many are already married and raising families in beautiful Jewish homes. Their success is the ultimate testament to the Mesivta experience.
